Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the things people ask most. If yours isn't here, email [email protected].

Is this legal?
Downloading public Instagram content for personal use is generally permitted under fair use in most jurisdictions. Redistributing copyrighted content without permission is not. You are responsible for how you use the files you download. This is informational only, not legal advice.
Do I need an Instagram account?
No. InstaYolo only works on public Instagram URLs that don't require login. We never ask for your Instagram password.
What quality do I get?
Whatever Instagram serves — usually 1080p for reels and videos uploaded since 2022, 720p for older or heavily-compressed clips. We list every available resolution so you can pick. In our April 2026 testing on a sample @natgeo Reel, top available resolution was 720p at 1.35 Mbps — no 1080p variant existed on Instagram's CDN for that clip. We show exactly what's there and don't upscale.
Is there a watermark?
No. We don't add one. The file you download is Instagram's original — whatever they store is what you get.
Why does the video need to be 'merged' to have audio?
Instagram serves many reels as DASH streams (Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP — MDN has a primer at developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/API/Media_Source_API/Transcoding_assets_for_MSE). In DASH, video and audio live in separate files so the player can pick the best quality for each connection. When you click Download we use ffmpeg on our server to merge them into one MP4 with sound. The merge runs on-the-fly and nothing is saved to disk.
Can I save just the audio as MP3?
Yes. On any video or reel result, the 'Audio only' row has an MP3 button that transcodes the audio stream to MP3 on our server and streams it to your browser.
What about single-photo posts?
Yes, single-image and carousel photo posts are supported. Because Instagram's image CDN won't let us proxy photos, the file saves with Instagram's original filename — you can rename after download.
Do you store my downloads?
No. We stream files from Instagram's CDN through our server to your browser without writing to disk. We also don't log the URLs you paste.
Does it work on iPhone, Android, PC, Mac?
Any device with a modern browser. There's no app to install — just paste and download.

Still stuck? Start with a specific downloader — Reels, Video, Story, Photo — each has its own tutorial on format, quality, and edge cases.
